“I just can’t do it, Captain! I don’t have the power!”
I just can’t do it! I can’t get online anymore and read bad news—firefighters getting killed fighting wildfires, more riots in Ferguson, MO or innocent people losing their lives due to bombings and terrorism.
I just can’t do it. It makes me sad. Sometimes, it makes me angry. Sometimes it makes me want to pack up everything on move to Wyoming or Alaska, just to get away from all the horrible things going on in the world right now. I can’t move to Wyoming or Alaska, but I CAN read new stories that won’t make me sad or angry!
A few months ago after I read something horrible in the news, I Googled “happy news,” and came across a website called Sunny Skyz, and website launched in January of 2012 to promote positive stories and upbeat media (Source: http://www.sunnyskyz.com/about).
Christopher Filippou, the founder of Sunny Skyz, was so tired of hearing negative news, he stopped paying attention altogether. People thought he was crazy, but I think he’s brilliant.
Recent stories include:
- A service dog dialing 911 and saving his owner’s life,
- A man taking his cab driver to a theme park because he had never been before, and
- Residents in Oklahoma leaving cold drinks for mail carriers because it’s so hot!
These are the kind of stories I want to read about on days I’m feeling a little down or scared about what the world is coming to. If you need a little pick me up today, head on over to Sunny Skyz and read some good news.
